About FOF Homestead

Welcome to the Family of Faith Homestead. This homestead was born from a desire to return to simple living, real food, and a life that honors God in the everyday. Everything grown, cooked, or cared for here is guided by the belief that God provides and we steward.

The foundation of this homestead is built on the values I was raised with back in Eastern North Carolina. Days filled with gardens overflowing in the summer heat, chickens scratching in the yard, and food that came straight from the land. Even though life took me far from that way of living for a long time, God slowly brought me back to what felt honest and true.

This homestead is my way of reclaiming that knowledge and passing it on.

Today, the Family of Faith Homestead is a growing and evolving space. There are 16 laying hens, 1 rooster, and two gentle Great Danes, Chicken Nugget and Coda, who think they are part of the livestock crew. The garden shifts with every season and teaches new lessons with each planting. Some days are smooth, others are a little chaotic, but every moment is an opportunity to learn, grow, and give thanks.

This homestead is not about perfection. It is about stewardship, patience, humility, and trusting God to guide each step. Here you will find recipes from my kitchen, updates from the garden, and honest stories from my journey into homesteading. It is real, sometimes messy, always meaningful, and rooted in faith.

Whether you are just starting, dreaming, or simply curious, I am glad you are here. Welcome to the Family of Faith Homestead, where we grow in grace, grit, and gratitude, one season at a time.

About Lava

Hi, I’m Lava. I’m a mother, a woman of faith, and someone who has spent a good part of her life finding her way back to the things God planted in her heart long before I understood them.

I was raised in Eastern North Carolina, where the air smelled like summer gardens, animals were purposeful, and food was something you grew, gathered, or cooked from scratch. Those early years shaped me even when I didn’t realize it. Life eventually took me into corporate jobs, city apartments, and the fast pace that comes with all of that, but no matter where I lived, I always found myself trying to recreate pieces of home. I grew peppers , herbs and tomatoes in buckets on balcony's. I baked like I had a crowd to feed. I kept trying to hold on to something that I didn’t yet know I’d return to.

Everything shifted when I became a mother. God used that moment to show me how much I craved a slower, more intentional life. One where I knew what was going into our food. One where my daughter could grow up connected to something real. One where faith wasn’t squeezed between obligations, but woven into every day. Around that time, I was reading and I came across a text that said, “We lived off the land for hundreds of years, and it only took my family one generation to lose it.” Those words sank deep into my heart. They felt like confirmation of everything God had already been whispering to me.

So I followed that pull. I moved to Southern Texas, started rebuilding the kind of life that felt true to who I am, and slowly began stepping into the homesteading lifestyle I once only dreamed about. It is not perfect, but it is purposeful. It is honest. It is mine.

Here on this site, I share what I’m learning, what I’m cooking, and what God is teaching me along the way. Some days it’s recipes and kitchen experiments. Some days it’s stories from the garden or the animals. And some days it’s just a reminder that God is faithful in every season.

Thank you for being here and for letting me share pieces of my life. I hope something here encourages you, inspires you, or simply makes you feel a little more at home.
